The Saskatchewan Women's and Men's U-18 Sevens Coaches have selected their teams to compete at The Western Canadian 7s Championship which will take place February 17th & 18th in Edmonton, Alberta.

Women's Head Coach Kayla Mack is excited to see the team together again after our tournament in Moose Jaw a few weeks ago. The team improved each game and players were taking opportunities as they arose. Westerns is a great tournament with lots of competition and the team is ready to build through more game time.

Men's Head Coach Robin MacDowell has only made two changes from the side that competed for Alberta Regional Championships a month ago in Edmonton. With Captain Cameron Marchand unavailable for selection due to family commitments a leadership opportunity has opened up for Regina's Jeff Muma.  Although Jeff is a center in the 15s game he will serve as a mobile forward at Western Canadians and we will be leaning on his experience and leadership with our young side. MacDowell is thrilled to welcome back Ryker Frank who was unavailable for our last competition as he was away competing with Football Canada in Texas. Ryker debut for our provincial sevens program in 2018 at the National Festival in Vancouver where he was one of our key attacking players. This young man has put in an incredible amount of work in over the the past 12 months both on and off the field to become a well rounded class sevens player. We have a very well balanced side going into westerns with powerful forwards in Matt Klimchuk, Darius Towers, Alastair Marshall, and the dynamic play of Dreydon Martin who can play anywhere on the field. Returning in the backs we have a lot of pace with exciting young wingers Jack Hanwell, and Lucas Scheck that burst onto the seen in their first ever sevens tournament. Lastly we will be looking to our experience play makers Carson Clarke, Eric Hudon, Caylem McCormick, and our goal kicking specialist Luke Wilson to control the game and use our many weapons effectively.  Ethan Mattern and Colton Aikens are both coming back from injuries but are working hard to make their Sask Rugby return in time for our next competition in Florida later this April.
